Dr. Francis Smithgall

Dr. Francis Smithgall graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Sciences and the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He then completed a General Practice Residency at Lutheran Medical Center in New York City. During his residency he worked in a mobile dental van treating underprivileged patients in rural upstate New York. Dr. Smithgall returned to the Philadelphia area and enjoys a multifaceted career. He has maintained a private practice in General Dentistry and has served as a Clinical Associate Professor and Course Director at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine for over 25 years. Well-liked by students and faculty alike, Dr. Smithgall has won numerous Pre-Clinical Teaching Awards. Dr. Smithgall is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. He also is a member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, Philadelphia County Dental Society, and Southern Dental Society of New Jersey. In the past he has published articles, “A Simple Technique for Operatory Placement of Overdenture Attachments” in the Journal of the American Dental Association and “So You Want to Be a Dentist? An Investigative Report” in the Pennsylvania Dental Journal.

Dr. Smithgall met his wife, Dr. Francine Paladino, in dental school, and has been happily married for many years. In his spare time he enjoys photography and gardening. He and his wife live in Cherry Hill, have one grown daughter and are active members of the community.
